Shame

These are the days of the debauchery of the senses and the death of innocence.

I usually would have avoided writing about a depressing or somber topic specially in this festive season, but the recent news of the rape and murder of a woman that is rocking Bangalore has made it inevitable that I vent my ire on the current state of affairs, especially more so in this case since the victim happened to belong to the BPO branch of my very own organization.
Apparently, around 2 a.m. on Tuesday last week, this lady got a call on her cell from this driver, who told her he had come as a replacement for her regular cab, and who then drove her to an isolated place, raped her, then slit her throat and dumped her body in a nearby ditch, and fled the scene, only to be caught by the police after 2 days.
I shudder to think what would’ve gone through the mind of her husband, (she’d only been married for a few months).
And that’s the reason I hate the Human Right’s activists who’re against capital punishment. The sad truth is that such vile and disgusting oversexed men can be controlled only by fear and sheer terror. I beg your pardon if I’m being too graphic, but I totally support the punishment given under the Shariat law in Islamic countries for such heinous crimes, to chop off the very tool which was the root cause of the crime, and then keep the perpetrator alive in solitary confinement for the rest of his life.
As was expected, the whole organization is now shook up and rattled with allegations and counter allegations, with the police claiming that she might’ve been saved with the timely action of the travel desk staff, since the regular driver had informed them about her absence that night.
It’s tragic that it took such a ghastly incident for the company to wake up from it’s slumber and issue new safety guidelines for all people who might have to stay back beyond normal working hours, be it BPO or the Software employees.
Had this been the U.S., the victim’s family could’ve sued the a** of the organization. Anyways these MNC’s earn more than 10 times their employee’s salaries from the outsourced countries, and the least they can do is ensure their safety and security.
Sadly, nothing can change the harsh truth for her family members, who’ve lost a loved 1 forever.

Even on a broader scale, crimes against women are gradually increasing by the day. Bihar and UP have always remained the badlands,(no disrespect intended), but the recent crime surge in metros like Delhi and Bombay(and now Bangalore) reflects a disturbing trend.
Though we take pride in calling ourselves the 2nd fastest growing economy in Asia, all that growth is meaningless if it’s not accompanied with an equally effective growth in law enforcement and a swift and just judicial system.(Now that’s a distant dream)

The state of a nation can be judged by gauging the state of it’s women. – Jawaharlal Nehru

I agree with you on the capital punishment bit. Some crimes are just too heinous and the perpetrators need to be given the harshest punishment that can be meted out to them.
"The state of a nation can be judged by gauging the state of it’s women. – Jawaharlal Nehru" Truer words couldn't have been spoken!

What a horrific incident. Rape is truly the most shameful, inhuman and heinous crime anyone commit.
There was this news couple weeks ago abt a young 3 year old girl being raped. How disgusting is that? I agree with you, death penalty is not enough for these criminals. They should be tortured to death by chopping off their hands and genitals. With our kind of political system where leaders easily abuse their powers I hardly think the judicial system can be just. Also I think women should be more alert and careful abt their surroundings. They should be taught abt some self defense mechanism at company level specially when their job involves staying up late hours.

My goshh I had goosebumps reading abt what happened to this girl! It's shocking and very sad...

U may know already that I dun support death penalty...violence for violence isnt the way we should be building up the society. I understand that it's a real painful thing for the family and it's disgusting but would death teach this idiot a good lesson?

The most monstrous crime that can be committed against a woman because it robs her of her very soul, nips out all life from her..
death would be too good a punishment..cutting off the 'tool' and branding with a hot iron on his forehead would be best bcos even if he forgets what he has done others will remind him..

You touch upon a very debatable topic here. Sometimes capital punishment ought to be given but sometimes innocents or the non-deserving are vacuumed into it. Sad but true. I guess everybody has an opinion but no firm suggestion.

Hi ALL.

Ash -> Thank u. "where women are honoured there resides the gods". Well, u already seem to know it. Yes, take this as an eye-opener.Better to be safe than sorry.

Phoenix Rises -> "Some crimes are just too heinous and the perpetrators need to be given the harshest punishment that can be meted out to them." I'm glad u agree.

Dewdrop -> Thnx for dropping by.
"I think women should be more alert and careful abt their surroundings. They should be taught abt some self defense mechanism".
True, in fact this shud apply to all women everywhere. Your safety is in your own hands.

Keshi -> I've read ur post 'In search of compassion'. We all have our own views and it's ok to have some differences. While i agree that executing a person just because he was found carrying drugs is barbaric, yet i stand by my viewpoint on such heinous crimes as rape and cold blooded murder. In any case capital punishment in our country is reserved only for the worst of the worst cases.(which are a fraction considering that most cases don't even get reported).

Nothing's Aplenty -> Thank you too for dropping by.

~*~Kiran~*~ -> "there have been times when even my driver has come in drunk ..or with some other unknown driver.."
Aww cmon, ur making me worried about u now! I'm glad u realised the gravity of this incident, but pleaseeee NEVER accompany a drunk driver alone! Ensure that u have at least another colleague travelling with u.It's at least a precautionary measure. TC!!

Shikha -> "because it robs her of her very soul, nips out all life from her.."
You've said it all. I agree with ur idea of the punishment too.

Illiterate Sneha -> Thanks for visiting.
I know it's debatable, and i've already picked a side and given my views.Feel free to pick yours.

Thank u all again. Just to re-emphasize for all the intellectual ladies here, PLEASE take all possible steps to keep safe. Carrying sumthing like a Pepper spray on u (specially at nites) is the bare minimum u can do for your own safety.
Take Care !!!

The incident was very disturbing. I only pray that it never is repeated. Feel really sorry for her family.

Love you longtime! said...

Yes, the incident was disturbing! And as a former BPO employee, methinks that this is a rarest of rare incident. I mean, I 've never witnessed or even heard of someone(driver) even eve-teasing a woman.

And methinks Jawaharlal Nehru said that "the state of a nation can be judged by the cleanliness of it's people." (Please correct me, if i'm wrong)

Crime rate is increasing at an alarming rate, thats true.
"... beg your pardon if I’m being too graphic, but I totally support the punishment given under the Shariat law in Islamic countries for such heinous crimes"
I completely agree with the kind of punishment. Such men should not be allowed to roam around scot free.

My Ramblings -> Thnx for visiting and voicing your concern.

Sebia -> Finally u saw it too. Thnx and i agree with your thoughts.

Capital punishment couldnt be the right answer, theres been more than 50 (or 25) executions in US in 75 years. Not exactly a sign of 'help' is it?

I would say they need to be sent in for longer terms in prison. Death isnt really a solution for anything.

Hi pal...

The events that took place were really horrible. It was bad that the company just issued statements like "the driver wasn't a regular one, he wasn't authorised" Is that the way to end the discussion. ?? If they aren't responsible, then who is???

His tools HAVE to be cut and chopped. A$$hole that he is!

We can pray for her family and her husband that they come out of this soon and strong.

rebel_on_loose said...

DeVile -> Welcome Back, again. All i can say is, go ask her husband if he wants 2 forgive this guy for what he's done.Ideally, he should be the 1 to have the final word on the kind of punishment to be given.Something inside tells me he wouldn't agree with you.

IcyBlue -> Hi pal, yes the company should take the responsibility, and the tool better be chopped.
True, all we can do is pray for her soul and her family.

you know, i read and commented on this post last week!!! i wonder why my comments always go missing in blogsphere.

times are such that a person can no longer trust a fellow human. sex seems to be dominating the evil world. worse yet are the cases where fathers rape their young daughters. i am tired and sick of reading cases on incests. i just wish the ultimate power up there would just send bolts of lightning to these animals.
